How to start a cryptocurrency blog

crypto blogging

So you want to start a crypto blog? This is a great idea! But where do you start? There’s so much information out there and before you start you may feel so overwhelmed that you give up.

It’s common so don’t fret!

Before I set up cryptocoindude.com, just over 2 years ago, I was a cryptocurrency blogging newbie. Not quite a no-coiner, but definitely new to the blogging scene.

Now cryptocoindude.com is doing pretty well and it receives over 300,000k new and returning visitors every year. I know a ton about blog creation, post writing and ranking organically on Google through on and off page search engine optimization (SEO).

I’m not a blogging God by any stretch, but I believe I can pass on the basics to get you on your way to creating a kick-ass crypto blog. Without further ado, let’s jump into ‘how to start a crypto blog – beginners guide’

Why should you create a crypto blog?

In this post, I’ll outline exactly what you need to do to set up a crypto blog. First, it will be worthwhile to explore why you may want to do this.

  1. Blogging has become one of the best ways to express yourself online. There are millions of blogs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stand out!
  2. You get to connect with readers and deliver your message.
  3. You will become a better writer.
  4. The best reason is you will make money from it. Brands love bloggers!

How to start a crypto blog in five easy steps

  1. Choose the best blog platform
  2. Chose a webhost
  3. Set up your blog on your own domain
  4. Design your new blog
  5. Useful resources for bloggers

You’ve made it this far so well done – lets dig deeper.

Step 1 Choose the best blog platform

The first job you have is to choose your blogging platform. The best platform, and the one I’d always recommend, is WordPress. WordPress.org and not WordPress.com.

A WordPress blog will offer you the ultimate flexibility. It has 1000s of plugins so you can customise your blog to do exactly what you need.

It’s estimated that 75 million blogs are ran on WordPress.org. All these people can’t be wrong.

It’s immense and really user friendly for newbies: it’s not rocket science. A few good YouTube video guides under your belt and you will be good to go.

There are other blogging platforms like Blogger, Weebly and Tumblr. But if you want to take it seriously go for WordPress.

Step 2 Choose a webhost

Your next choice will be to select a webhost. Do you go self-hosting or a free alternative?

WordPress.com, Tumblr and Blogger all have free versions. Sounds good, right?

If you want to create a blog that no one will ever reader or find, then these are perfectly fine options. Sounds harsh, right, but let me explain.

Choose these free platforms and you will be given a butt ugly domain name like yourblog.wordpress.com or yourblog.tumblr.com.

Google really dislikes these domain names and your chances of ranking well are very low.

Next, with these free platforms you will be limited to what you can actually do.

For example, you want cutting edge social share buttons or the gold-plated SEO plugin of Yoast and then it’s a none starter. Your blog is curbed by what the platform offers.

WordPress.org has 1000s developers building custom plugins to take your blog where other platforms can’t.

Finally, host your blog on one of these free platforms and you simply don’t own it. If Blogger for example one day decides that is doesn’t like crypto, then poof your blog could be blacklisted and banned. Unlikely, but I like to own my creations.
